Gorakhpur Expressway: Construction of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway, which will connect to the Purvanchal Expressway, is expected to be completed by May 15, according to local officials. Commissioner Anil Dhingra and District Magistrate Krishna Karunesh visited the construction site at Kamhariya Ghat over the Ghaghra River on Tuesday to assess progress.

During their visit, the implementing agency reported that work is advancing swiftly and is on track for completion soon. The commissioner instructed that all remaining construction tasks should be finalised within 15 to 20 days. He stated that while the river diversion work will continue, the bridge and road construction must be prioritised for timely completion. The expressway is anticipated to be inaugurated in the latter half of May.

The commissioner also coordinated with various departments during the inspection, urging them to eliminate any obstacles hindering construction. He stressed the importance of timely and quality work, warning that accountability would be enforced should any negligence arise. Present at the site were MD of UPDA Sanjay Agarwal, Additional District Magistrate (Administration) Purushottam Das Gupta, Project Manager of Setu Nigam AK Singh, and other officials.

Gorakhpur Link Expressway Inauguration

The inauguration ceremony for the Gorakhpur Link Expressway is expected to be a significant event. Plans are in place for the ceremony to take place on the border of Gorakhpur and Azamgarh, potentially featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, alongside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

During a recent event in Gorakhpur marking eight years of government service, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hinted that traffic would soon commence on the expressway, promising a grand inauguration.

Gorakhpur Link Expressway Route

The Gorakhpur Link Expressway, which begins at Jaitpur near Sahjanwan and connects to the Purvanchal Expressway at Salarpur in Azamgarh, spans 91.35 km and has been constructed at a cost of Rs 7,283 crore. While it has not been officially inaugurated, traffic has already started using the route. With the expressway open, travel time to Lucknow is expected to be reduced to approximately 3.5 to 4 hours, despite the distance being slightly longer than the traditional route through Gorakhpur and Ayodhya.
