Additional sessions judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar, who is currently hearing the Gyanvapi matter, claimed he had received death threats from international numbers. The judge, who ordered a videography survey of the Gyanvapi mosque in 2022, asked the Uttar Pradesh Police to probe the incident of ‘malicious calls and death threats from international numbers’. He has written a letter to SSP Sushil Chandrabhan Ghule in this regard, TOI reported.

Earlier, Y-category security was granted to him and his family by the Allahabad High Court after judgement on Gyanvapi. However, the security was later downgraded to the X category.

Currently, there are two security personnel guarding Diwakar. As per his close aide, cited by the TOI, this security was inadequate for him as the two personnel lacked weapons to counter fatal attacks.

"An atmosphere of fear was created by making this civil case into an extraordinary case. The fear is so much that my family is always concerned about my safety and I am concerned about their safety. Concerns about safety are repeatedly expressed by my wife when I am out of the house,” Diwakar said in 2022.

Notably, a PFI member was arrested near Diwakar's house in Lucknow last year. Shahjahanpur SSP Ashok Kumar Meena had also assigned a gunner to Diwakar’s brother, who is also an additional district judge. The security was later withdrawn owing to the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

Justice Diwakar also received a hand-written threat letter in 2022. Judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar in a letter to the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Director General of Police (DGP) and the Varanasi Police Commissionerate, Diwakar said he received the letter, purportedly written by Kashif Ahmed Siddiqui on behalf of the Islamic Aagaz Movement, via registered post.
