The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is set to resume after a five-year hiatus, with the first batch of pilgrims scheduled to depart on June 15. The Central Government has entrusted the Uttar Pradesh government with the responsibility of facilitating accommodation and food arrangements for the pilgrims in Ghaziabad. Acting on these instructions, the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC) has finalised preparations.
A total of 750 pilgrims from across India have registered for the yatra through the Ministry of External Affairs. All pilgrims will be accommodated at the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Bhawan in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, for a four-day orientation period before embarking on the spiritual journey.
During this time, the UPSTDC will oversee their lodging, meals, and yoga sessions, while the Government of India will manage medical examinations and visa formalities. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) will also conduct a one-day training session.
The pilgrimage, which had been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic and India-China border tensions, will conclude on August 25. This year, 500 pilgrims will proceed via Sikkim’s Nathu La Pass, while 250 will take the Lipulekh Pass route in Uttarakhand.
The first four groups, each comprising 50 devotees, will begin their journey via Sikkim, with the initial group departing from Ghaziabad on June 15. The first group via Uttarakhand is scheduled to leave on July 4.
Upon completion of the pilgrimage, pilgrims will return to Ghaziabad for a day’s stay before concluding their journey. The state government has allocated Rs 1.35 crore to support the arrangements for the yatra.
Travel Routes and Costs:
-Sikkim Route (Nathu La Pass): Cost ranges between Rs 2.75 to Rs 3 lakh per person.
-Uttarakhand Route (Lipulekh Pass): More economical, with costs ranging from Rs 1.75 to Rs 2 lakh per person.
As part of its support initiative, the Uttar Pradesh government provides a financial reimbursement of Rs 1 lakh to state residents who complete the yatra. Eligible pilgrims must submit their bank account details, PAN card, Aadhaar card, and proof of completion of the pilgrimage to the Charitable Works Department.
