Uttar Pradesh Police raided a hotel affiliated with Oyo on the Mathura-Bareilly road near Mamo village on Wednesday afternoon and caught six couples in an objectionable position. The hotel operator was taken into custody and interrogated by the police officials. The police action came after the villagers created a ruckus outside the hotel, alleging that minor girls were also brought in the hotel.
The hotel named Meenakshi Palace, was running for a long time in a high-rise building owned by a retired PCS officer, who had given it on rent to a youth from Khurja. The hotel charged Rs 1500 to Rs 2000 for staying in the room for an hour. The couples caught by the police were from the local area as well as from nearby districts such as Etah, Ujhani, Badaun and Bareilly. Some of them were also married.
The matter came to light when a young man from Mamon village went to the hotel to get water and saw the couples there in a suspicious condition. He informed the villagers, who gathered and reached the hotel to stage a protest at the site.
Following the protest by the villagers, Circle Officer Ajit Chauhan called a Special Operations Group (SOG) team to pacify the situation and assured the villagers of adequate action. Police stated that the relatives of the boys and girls were contacted and any decision on further action will be taken only after a complete investigation of the matter.
The building’s owner, a retired PCS officer, earlier attempted to get rid of the hotel operator in June this year when he learned about the activities at the hotel but he changed his mind when the hotel operator raised the rent.
