Lucknow Metro Expansion: The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved the Lucknow metro expansion plan to connect the busiest areas of the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the total length of Phase IB of the Lucknow Metro project will be 11 kilometers, adding that the total cost of the project will be Rs 5,801 crore. He further stated that the expansion of metro services will provide conveniences to thousands of commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing traffic congestion. Apart from improving the regional connectivity, the metro expansion will also provide a boost to the financial activities in multiple regions.
Details about the Lucknow Metro expansion plan
The authorities stated that the new metro corridor will have a total of 12 stations, adding that while seven stations will be built underground, the others will function as elevated stations. The main reason behind the expansion of the metro services is to improve the connectivity in the old and densely populated regions of the city, the statement read. It further stated that the expansion project will provide convenience to the residents of several areas, including Aminabad, Yahiyaganj, Pandeyganj, and Chowk.
The metro project will also include the other key zones, such as the King George's Medical University (Medical College) and major tourist attractions such as Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, Bhool Bhulaiya, Clock Tower, and Rumi Darwaza, besides the culinary destinations in a city known for its rich and historic food culture, the statement said. "By bridging these vital areas with the Metro network, Phase 1B will not only enhance connectivity but also stimulate economic activity, tourism, and ease urban mobility for both residents and visitors," it said.
The government stated that the expansion project represents a significant advancement in the city's infrastructure development, marking a major expansion of the Metro rail network in the state capital.
