Lucknow Metro Phase 2 Status Update: In a major update for the commuters of Lucknow, construction work on the East-West corridor of the metro is likely to begin shortly. The corridor will significantly boost the connectivity by connecting Charbagh to Basant Kunj, providing a major convenience to the commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing traffic congestion. The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has issued tenders for the construction of five elevated metro stations along this corridor. The UPMRC stated that all the necessary steps are being taken to ensure that the service is available for public use before the deadline.
While providing details, the authority stated that the construction of these five elevated metro stations will cost Rs 492.22 crore. The metro corridor from Charbagh to Basant Kunj will be 11.165 kilometers long and will have a total of 12 metro stations. The stretch will be connected to the Charbagh metro station of the North-South corridor. The authority further stated that Charbagh will become an interchange station, allowing passengers to switch to the other corridor.
The East-West corridor will include underground stations at Charbagh, Gautam Buddha Marg, Aminabad, Pandeyganj, City Railway Station, and Medical Chauraha. Apart from this, the corridor will have elevated stations, including Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarazganj, Musabagh, and Basant Kunj. The authority stated that the deadline for submitting tenders for this project has been set for February 2, adding that the project must be completed within thirty months.
