In a major step towards enhancing passenger safety, General Manager of Northern Railway Ashok Kumar Verma inaugurated a 24x7 Emergency Medical Room (EMR) at Lucknow Railway Station on Thursday. The facility will offer free emergency treatment to passengers during critical situations such as heart attacks, delivery complications, or other sudden illnesses during train journeys.

With this, Lucknow becomes the second station in the Northern Railway zone, after Varanasi, to get an EMR facility. Plans are also underway to launch a similar setup at Ayodhya Railway Station soon.

The EMR will be equipped with:

-A doctor and paramedical staff are on duty round the clock

-Ambulance with life support system

-Pharmacy and pathology lab

-Free treatment for passengers in emergencies, with referrals to other hospitals if required

-Treatment for the general public at CGHS rates, as per Health Ministry guidelines

Until now, in emergencies, assistance was provided only after coordination between TTEs, the control room, and doctors at the divisional hospital, which often resulted in delays. The new EMR is expected to significantly reduce response time and improve chances of survival in critical cases.

Senior officials, including DRM Sunil Kumar Verma, Station Director Prashant Kumar, ADRM Neelima Singh, Senior DOM Rajneesh Srivastava, Dr Sangeeta Sagar, and Dr Rajkumar were present at the inauguration.

He inspected the Nihalgarh station building, even climbing to its rooftop to assess its condition.

Upon returning to Lucknow, he interacted with the running staff at the Alambagh diesel shed and inaugurated a newly constructed control conference hall at the DRM office. He also reviewed the ongoing redevelopment work of Lucknow and Varanasi stations.
