Caring for critically ill patients in hospitals, especially in ICUs, poses several challenges, from monitoring blood pressure, pulse, and heart rate to changing patient positions and managing other medical needs.
To address these issues, Era University, Lucknow, in collaboration with Criterion Tech, has developed the Enhanced Medical Training System (EMTS), which includes an AI- and sensor-equipped real-time remote monitoring dashboard and a fully digital ventilator.
The system, showcased at the UP International Trade Show, is claimed to be the first of its kind developed in India. Harishankar, director at Era University and Criterion Tech, explained that the dashboard monitors every aspect of a patient’s condition in real time and automatically alerts the relevant doctor.
If the information is ignored, it escalates to a senior surgeon and, if necessary, to higher officials, ensuring timely medical intervention.
The digital ventilator integrates multiple automated devices, allowing the measurement of patient height, weight, and position directly on the bed. It includes devices for monitoring fuel and urine, continuously sending data to the dashboard. The system also records the heartbeat rate at which critical events, such as heart attacks, occur.
The dashboard tracks ICU patient conditions, including difficulty in changing positions, bedding hygiene, skin adhesion issues, areas showing deterioration, medication requirements, and optimal angles for head and foot elevation. All information is consolidated for doctors and medical staff to take precise and timely action.
The patented system has received both national and international recognition and is already in use at Ram Manohar Lohia Medical College and Era Hospital. It has been developed based on the Hospital Information Management Service (HIMS) to streamline patient care and reduce manual intervention in hospitals.
