The Railways is set to redevelop Mohibullapur railway station in Lucknow with modern passenger amenities under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. A comprehensive 22-point proposal for station upgradation, including infrastructure and passenger services, has been prepared and forwarded to the North Eastern Railway (NER) Headquarters, which has already given its in-principle approval. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 300 crore, subject to final clearance from the Railway Board.
The redevelopment plan includes:
-Construction of new shelters on Platforms 1 and 2
-Coach guidance system and four train display boards
-AC restrooms with double beds, separate waiting halls for men and women
-Two lifts, trolley pathways, and barrier-free access for differently-abled passengers
-A 200-metre-long, 8-metre-wide access road from Sitapur Road
-Facade lighting, high mast lights, pole lights
-Five ticket counters for both reserved and unreserved categories
-Pay-and-use toilets, drinking water points, entry and exit gates
-200-metre fenced parking area and 1200-metre boundary wall
Once approved, the existing station building will be demolished to make way for a fully modernised structure.
Located on the Aishbagh–Sitapur railway line, Mohibullapur station currently serves passenger trains like LTT–Sitapur Express and Gorakhpur–Mailani Express. With Railways planning a new alternate route to Delhi via Sitapur, the upgraded station is expected to play a vital role in decongesting the Lucknow–Hardoi–Kanpur corridor.
Officials suggest that once redevelopment is complete, more express trains may be routed through this section, offering significant relief to commuters from areas around Sitapur Road, who would no longer need to travel to the main Lucknow station.
