A fire broke out in Prayagraj’s Mahakumbh Mela area on Thursday afternoon, destroying two tents before firefighters managed to bring it under control. The incident occurred in Sector 6 of the Mela area, triggering panic among attendees.

The affected site is a police camp on Bindu Madhav Marg, where security personnel stay in tents. The fire started suddenly in one of the tents, spreading quickly before being contained. 

Fire brigade teams rushed to the scene and worked swiftly to extinguish the flames, preventing further damage. Authorities are investigating the incident, with preliminary findings suggesting that a short circuit may have caused the fire.

The ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela has witnessed multiple fire incidents, with the previous occurrence on February 9 in Sector 19 due to a gas cylinder leak in a ‘Kalpvasi’ tent. Firefighters extinguished the blaze within 10 minutes, but the tent was completely destroyed. 

Earlier, on February 7, a fire at the ISKCON camp in Sector 18 spread to 20 tents. A major fire on January 19 in Sector 19 destroyed over a dozen camps after a cylinder blast. On January 25, two parked cars in Sector 2 caught fire due to a short circuit, but no casualties were reported.
