Joy turned to grief late Thursday night when two teenagers returning from a wedding procession were crushed to death by a speeding truck on the Meerut-Karnal highway. A third teenager sustained critical injuries in the hit-and-run incident.
The Accident
The incident occurred around 11:30 pm near Dream City in the Kanker khera area. According to Inspector Vinay Kumar, the three youths—Ashu, Adi and Vedu—were travelling on a motorcycle when a speeding truck rammed into them from behind. The impact was catastrophic; the truck dragged the motorcycle and the riders for approximately 20 metres before running them over. Following the collision, the driver fled the scene with the vehicle.
Casualties And Status
Deceased: Adi (resident of Pohli village, Sardhana) and Vedu (resident of Hapur) died at the scene due to severe injuries.
Injured: Ashu (resident of Pohli village) remains in a critical condition and has been admitted to Sheela Hospital.
Safety Violation: Police noted that none of the three victims were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
Background
The teenagers had attended the wedding procession of Shiva, son of Leelu from Pohli village, held at the MMG Banquet Hall near Marshal Pitch in Kanker khera. They were on their way home after the event when the tragedy struck.
