In a major initiative to simplify the delivery of government benefits, the Meerut District Social Welfare Department has introduced the Family ID, which will function as a substitute for the ration card. Officials said the ID ensures that families can access all government schemes directly, without needing multiple documents.

Notably, when the head of a family turns 60, the Family ID will automatically trigger the disbursal of old-age pensions, eliminating the need to visit government offices. The district plans to create around 2.5 lakh Family IDs, of which 30,000 have already been issued.

Residents can apply for a Family ID at the Economics and Statistics Department office in Vikas Bhawan or online via https://familyid.up.gov.in. The online application requires linking a mobile number to Aadhaar, entering family member details, occupation, annual income, bank account, and address. Upon submission, an application number is generated, which can be used to print the Family ID.

The ID will also serve as a tool to identify unemployed families, giving them priority when employment opportunities arise. It will provide direct access to benefits under schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, Ujjwala, Kisan Samman Nidhi, scholarships, old-age pensions, widow pensions, and disability pensions. Eligible beneficiaries can present their Family ID at relevant offices without additional documentation.
