Cricketer Mohammed Shami and his brother, Mohammed Kaif, are no longer registered voters in Amroha. This was confirmed during the Special Summary Revision (SIR) process. Both brothers had removed their names from the local voter list in 2023. They are now registered voters in Kolkata, with their names included in the voter list of Ward 93 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

Meanwhile, the name of Mohammed Shami's wife, Hasin Jahan, has also been removed from the Amroha district voter list. During the SIR process, she instructed the Booth Level Officer (BLO) via a phone call to delete her name from the Sahaspur Alinagar voter list. Notably, Shami, Hasin, and Kaif had all cast their votes in the village during the 2022 Assembly elections.

Dual Voter Screening And Migration

During the SIR process, the most prominent names in the district's list of potential dual voters were cricketer Mohammed Shami, his wife Hasin Jahan, and his younger brother, cricketer Mohammed Kaif. Being natives of the area, their names were originally included in the voter list of Sahaspur Alinagar village. In the assembly election voter list, Shami's name was registered at serial number 1076, Mohammed Kaif's at 1078, and Hasin Jahan's at 1079.

While residing in Kolkata, Shami and his brother Kaif had registered themselves in the voter list of Ward 93 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. During the SIR process, both brothers received a notice regarding this matter in December 2025. In response, they confirmed their preference to retain their voting rights in Kolkata.

Removal Process And Verification

Although Shami and Kaif had voluntarily removed their names from the Sahaspur Alinagar voter list in 2023, Hasin Jahan's name was still included. However, during the SIR process, BLO Anirudh Singh contacted her via mobile phone to request the necessary documents for verification (mapping).

In response, Hasin Jahan requested that her name be removed from the Sahaspur Alinagar voter list. Based on this request, the BLO deleted her name from the local list. Consequently, the names of Shami, Kaif, and Hasin Jahan have all been removed from the Sahaspur Alinagar voter list during the SIR process, and they are no longer voters in Amroha.

Official Statements

Shami's brother Haseeb Ahmed said,"Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Kaif were voters of Sahaspur Alinagar. They even voted here in 2022. However, since they had registered as voters in Kolkata, they voluntarily removed their names from the Sahaspur Alinagar voter list in 2023."

BLO Anirudh Singh from Sahaspur Alinagar said, "Mohammed Shami and his brother Kaif are not voters of Sahaspur Alinagar. Meanwhile, Shami's wife, Hasin Jahan, requested to be removed from the Sahaspur Alinagar voter list. She confirmed this during a mobile conversation. Therefore, her name has also been removed from the list during the SIR process. Nevertheless, a notice regarding mapping will still be issued to her as per the rules."
