Two sisters from Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar who went missing a few days ago have returned to their families. The two cousins walked into the police station on August 7, with one dressed as a groom and the other dressed in the attire of a bride. Police and their families were present when the cousins arrived at the police station. They reportedly told the police that they had married each other and wanted to live together as ‘companions’.

According to a report by Amar Ujala, the father of one of the girls filed a complaint against the other through the IGRS portal when his daughter went missing. In his complaint, he alleged that his daughter was lured away by her cousin, who lived in Titawi village of Muzaffarnagar. He also expressed suspicion that his daughter might have been sold somewhere. Soon after, a complaint was registered in Lucknow, and the police launched a probe. The police were able to contact the missing girl and assured to would provide security if she came forward.

Missing Sisters Arrived As ‘Married Couple’

On August 7, the two sisters walked into the police station as ‘bride and groom’. One of them was dressed like a groom, and the other had sindoor (vermilion) in the parting of her hair. Their families and police personnel were at the police station when the duo arrived.

According to the police, the girls were in love for more than one and a half years. Earlier, they were ‘sisters’, but now they consider themselves ‘companions’ and want to spend their lives together. The girls said that they got married in a temple before coming to the police station.

When their families came to know about their relationship, they tried to persuade the girls to return home. They urged them to reconsider their decision and stay with their families, but the girls refused to reconsider.

Police Escorts Cousins To Ensure Their Safety

Soon after the confrontation, the police escorted both of them away from the station to ensure their safety. According to a report by Amar Ujala, the younger of the two, who was dressed as the groom, has studied up to Class 12, and the other one has completed Class 10. The girls told the police that they are living like a married couple and want to continue this way.
