At least 35 staff members of the Greater Noida Authority will lose their salaries for a day from their monthly salary for turning up late to the office. The decision has been taken after receiving direction from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the authority, as the CEO conducted a surprise inspection on Tuesday morning, the Hindustan Times reported, quoting officials from the authority.
During his inspection on Tuesday, the CEO, Lokesh M, found that staff members were not present at their desks while people were waiting to get their work done. Following the incident, the department head was directed to cut a day’s salary from the monthly amount of the absent employees, the report added, quoting officials as saying.
Not only were these latecomers reprimanded the CEO also asked them to attend to the public calls about civic woes.
“We have directed the water works and civil department staff to respond to public complaints about civic woes promptly without any delay. We have also directed the staff to properly respond to the citizens’ calls regarding civic issues without ignoring,” the CEO was quoted as saying in the report.

“The junior engineers, assistant engineers, project engineers and others ignore calls of citizens about their civic issues. As a result, they have to reach out to senior officials for small works. We have made it clear to them that if they will not attend to calls or address the civic woes properly, they must be ready to face the action,” he added.
An official stated that on Monday, the CEO reviewed monsoon preparedness at the Sector 6 office, directing staff to ensure thorough drain cleaning and address sewer line overflow issues. The CEO also instructed the water works department to disconnect sewer connections from unauthorized buildings on village land.
The Noida Authority has also issued a helpline number for the public to call to attend to dysfunctional street lights in their areas. The number to report dysfunctional street lights is 18001029574.
