In a major relief for daily commuters, the Noida Authority has decided to construct a zero-shaped skywalk at the busy Model Town roundabout in Sector 62, where nearly 8 lakh people commute every day via NH-9 from Delhi, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Vaishali, Indirapuram, Hapur and Bulandshahr. At present, pedestrians are forced to cross the Noida-Ghaziabad border on foot amid high-speed traffic, posing serious safety risks and contributing to frequent traffic jams.
The foundation stone for the project was laid on Wednesday by Gautam Buddha Nagar MP Dr Mahesh Sharma and Noida MLA Pankaj Singh at the Sector 62 intersection. BJP Noida Metropolitan President Mahesh Chauhan was also present at the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Mahesh Sharma said the skywalk would provide permanent relief to residents, eliminating the need to cross fast-moving traffic at the Model Town roundabout. He added that the Noida Authority is developing the project with modern facilities to ensure pedestrian safety and convenience.
The project will be constructed at a cost of Rs 26.34 crore. According to Noida MLA Pankaj Singh, the skywalk will be 530 metres long, 350 metres covering the circular roundabout and 180 metres along the straight stretch, and will be four metres wide. To facilitate easy access, two escalators will be installed at the two corners on the Noida side, while two elevators will be provided on the National Highway side.
The zero-shaped skywalk will be connected to the existing foot overbridge on NH ahead of the roundabout, allowing seamless pedestrian movement. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months. Officials said the design will enable pedestrians approaching from all directions to cross safely.

For commuters coming from Ghaziabad, an existing foot overbridge located a short distance away will also be linked to the circular skywalk, allowing direct access to Noida. The structure will be roofed with corrugated iron sheets to protect pedestrians from sun and rain and will be supported by pillars from below.
Senior officials, including Noida Authority Additional Chief Executive Officer Vandana Tripathi, General Manager of Noida Traffic Cell Satish Pal, Civil Department officials, and others, were present during the foundation-laying ceremony.
