The traffic police of Gautam Budh Nagar have identified as many as 16 waterlogging hotspots that cause traffic disruptions in Noida and Greater Noida, officials said on Thursday. “There are multiple reasons for traffic congestion during rain. Due to waterlogging, people drive slowly as roads are not properly visible. Some bikers also take shelter under flyovers, which leave a narrow space for traffic till it stops raining. We have also noticed frequent vehicle breakdowns during rain, which adds to the chaos,” said Yamuna Prasad, deputy commissioner of police, traffic.
He noted that in order to address these issues of waterlogging, the traffic police have asked the relevant departments for both short- and long-term solutions.
“Temporary measures would involve installing pumps to remove water from underpasses and low-lying areas. Long-term measures would include making structural changes in the underpasses and installing sump wells for stormwater management,” he said.
Waterlogging Hotspots To Avoid
The Noida traffic police claim that several areas of Noida and Greater Noida are affected by waterlogging brought on by rain. The underpasses in Sectors 94, 96, 127, 108, NIB Chowki, Model Town, Sector 60, Behlolpur, and Rajnigandha Chowk in Sector 16 of Noida are among the locations that are severely impacted.
Traffic police in Greater Noida have identified many locations that are prone to waterlogging, including the Expo Mart underpass, Kulesra, Haldoni T-Point, Sutiyana T-Point, Kachchi route, Lal Kuan Flyover, and the route that leads from Lal Kuan to Delhi.
A Noida authority official said, “Officials from the water, civil, and health departments held a meeting to address waterlogging issues in several low-lying areas. They have decided to create a comprehensive action plan to address these challenges.”
Nearly 200 traffic police officers are assigned to Noida and Greater Nodia each day. They work in two shifts, the first from 7 AM to 2 PM and the second from 2 PM to 10 PM. Traffic police have also been urged to assist commuters during rainy weather.
