In a bid to encourage citizens to assist road accident victims promptly, the Transport Department has launched the ‘Rah-Veer’ scheme in Noida. Under this initiative, individuals who take injured persons to hospitals or trauma centres within the ‘golden hour’, the first hour after an accident, will be honoured by the state government, even if the victim later succumbs to their injuries.
According to a directive issued by the District Transport Department under the guidance of the Transport Commissioner, anyone helping an accident victim will be granted the status of a ‘Rah-Veer’, provided the death or injury resulted from a road accident. The scheme also offers legal protection to helpers, ensuring that citizens are not hesitant to assist.
ARTO (Enforcement) Dr Udit Narayan Pandey stated that the objective of the Rah-Veer scheme is to raise awareness among the general public and motivate them not to hesitate in helping the injured after accidents. The government also provides legal protection to the helper, so that no one is afraid to offer assistance.
Reward Details:
-Previously, citizens were rewarded Rs 5,000 for helping victims within the golden hour.
-Under the Rah-Veer scheme, the reward has been increased to Rs 25,000.
-In the case of major accidents that attract national attention, the reward can go up to Rs 1,00,000.

-Any ordinary citizen who helps take the injured to the hospital immediately after an accident.
-Providing help in serious accidents, such as in cases of head or spinal cord injuries or situations requiring surgery, will be considered particularly commendable.
