In a significant boost to sports infrastructure in government schools, the students of Government Inter College (GIC) in Sector 12 will soon have access to top-tier sporting facilities. The state government has approved a budget of Rs 4.92 crore for the construction of a mini indoor stadium within the college premises.

Timeline And Budget

Rajesh Kumar, District Inspector of Schools (DIOS), Gautam Buddh Nagar, confirmed that the first instalment of Rs 2.16 crore has already been released. The construction work, assigned to the UPCCL agency, is scheduled to commence in the last week of December.

Facilities

Comparable to Private Schools Officials from the Secondary Education Department stated that the objective is to provide government school students with education and sports facilities on par with private schools. The new stadium will be equipped to host training and competitions for a wide range of sports, including:

Combat Sports: Boxing, wrestling and judo.

Court And Team Sports: Badminton, basketball, volleyball, netball, table tennis, lawn tennis, and kabaddi.

Other Sports: Weightlifting, chess, ludo, and carrom.

Impact And Coaching

College Principal Mohit Vashishth welcomed the move, stating that the stadium will boost the morale of the students.

Benefits: It will benefit college students and aspiring athletes from across the district, serving as a hub for indoor games competitions.

Training: While it is likely that the government will provide coaches, the Principal assured that alternative arrangements will be made if necessary. The college is prepared to appoint coaches using its own resources or through partnerships with NGOs to ensure students receive proper training.
