To address Noida's recurring annual water crisis, the Noida Authority has launched a Rs 200 crore plan to build seven new Ranney wells over the next two years. This project aims to make the city's water supply self-sufficient, completely ending its dependence on both the Ganga Canal and groundwater.

The move comes as residents face severe water shortages every year, particularly around Dussehra and Diwali, when the Ganga Canal is closed for cleaning.

Current System And Immediate Goals

The Authority has already made significant progress by renovating 9 of its 11 existing Ranney wells, which now supply 122 Million Litres Daily (MLD) of water. This water is mixed with the 260 MLD of Ganga water drawn from Ghaziabad, resulting in a supply with a healthy TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) level of around 350-360.

According to officials, the renovation of the remaining two wells is underway. The water department aims to supply the city entirely with surface water (a mix of Ganga and Ranney well water) by December 31, 2025. This will resolve the problem of high TDS for approximately 100,000 residents.

Future Plans

Additional Chief Executive Officer Krishna Karunesh stated that this action plan will allow the city to stop using borewell water soon. The construction of the seven new Ranney wells is central to this goal. A site has already been identified in Sector-135 for two of the new wells.
