A man was arrested for killing his elder brother in a fit of jealousy in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Sunday. Police said the accused, identified as Satyam, attacked his elder brother Shivam (26), with an iron rod while he was sleeping in their home. Police have registered a case and investigation is underway.
The victim was a final-year student of LLB at a college in Sirathu, while the accused was pursuing M.Com. Their father, Sandeep Mishra, was a caterer. The accused confessed that he felt neglected by his parents who favoured his elder brother for his academic excellence.
"During initial interrogation, the accused claimed that he was feeling neglected because his parents lavished all their attention on Shivam who was good in studies. He said that he felt neglected and hence decided to eliminate his brother," a senior police official said as quoted by news agency IANS.
"Shivam was sleeping in the room upstairs while Sandeep was sitting outside and his wife Kiran was cooking. According to police, Satyam went to Shivam's room with an iron rod and attacked him several times while he was sleeping. On hearing the screams, Sandeep and Kiran ran up to the room to find Shivam bleeding profusely,'' a police official said.
Shivam was rushed to the hospital by his parents and neighbours, but he succumbed to his injuries. Based on the complaint of the victim's father, police registered a case against Satyam and arrested him.
