The Uttar Pradesh government has officially implemented the Centre’s ambitious Rahveer Yojana, a scheme aimed at honouring Good Samaritans who help road accident victims during the critical ‘Golden Hour’. Launched by the Prime Minister, the scheme offers a reward of Rs 25,000 to individuals who transport accident victims to a hospital or trauma centre within one hour of the incident.
Previously, the reward stood at Rs 5,000 but has now been significantly increased to encourage more citizens to come forward and assist during emergencies. As per the protocol, once an injured person is brought to the hospital, the hospital authorities will inform the police.
The police will then notify the District Collector and the Transport Department. After verification, the reward amount will be transferred directly to the bank account of the helper. The scheme is now effective across the entire state, including Lucknow, with the primary objective of reducing the road accident mortality rate through timely medical intervention.
Medical experts emphasise that the first hour following an accident—the ‘Golden Hour’—is crucial for saving lives, as immediate treatment significantly lowers the risk of fatality. The government believes the initiative will not only boost the spirit of social responsibility among citizens but also create a more compassionate and responsive society.
