Residents of Meerut are set to witness a significant transformation in the city’s infrastructure with several key projects nearing completion in the coming weeks and months. From road expansions and metro extensions to a new township development, these initiatives aim to enhance urban mobility and living standards.

Namo Bharat Train To Extend Operations

The Namo Bharat service, currently running till Bhudbaral (Meerut South), is set to extend to Shatabdi Nagar and Meerut Central Station. This will allow better connectivity within the city, easing daily commutes. The operation is expected to commence in the first week of April, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath likely to inaugurate the project.

The Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor’s Meerut section has seen rapid construction progress, with civil work nearly complete. Trials for both Namo Bharat and Metro racks are already underway between Meerut South and Shatabdi Nagar.

Land Acquisition For Ring Road

The long-awaited Ring Road project, aimed at decongesting Meerut’s traffic, is set to move forward with land acquisition expected to begin soon. The road will connect Hapur Road to the Delhi-Doon bypass via Jhurranpur and Delhi Road. The government has allocated Rs 60 crore, with the Meerut Development Authority (MEDA) adding Rs 100 crore from its infrastructure fund.

A total of Rs 162 crore will be used for land purchase, while the Public Works Department (PWD) has been assigned Rs 10 crore for road construction, which will be carried out in two phases.

While the initial completion target was delayed due to environmental regulations, work is now in its final stages.

The first phase, covering a 130 km stretch from Meerut to Badaun, is expected to be operational by May. Over 80 per cent of the construction, including flyovers, underpasses and a crucial bridge over the Ganga River at Garh Mukteshwar, is already completed.

New Connecting Road To Ease Traffic Congestion

A new connecting road linking Railway Road and Baghpat Road is being developed to reduce traffic congestion in Meerut. This 10-meter-wide road, passing through Jain Nagar from Shiv Mandir Tiraha, is expected to be operational by April. MEDA is funding the construction, while the PWD’s provincial section is handling the execution. This project was initiated with the efforts of Rajya Sabha MP and BJP National Vice-President Laxmikant Bajpai. The PWD has assured timely completion, with a deadline set for March 31.

Six-Lane Highway To Improve City Commute

The Meerut-Bulandshahr National Highway, which begins a kilometer ahead of the Bijli Bamba bypass, is undergoing expansion into a six-lane road. The 5 km stretch from Hapur Adda Crossing to Hapur Road, previously plagued with potholes and traffic jams, is being upgraded with the efforts of former MP Rajendra Agarwal. Despite initial delays due to encroachments and shifting of electricity lines, the project is now in its final phase and expected to be completed soon.

Bhumiya Bridge Reconstruction Nears Completion

To address frequent waterlogging and traffic jams, the Municipal Corporation is reconstructing the Bhumiya Bridge. The old bridge suffered from poor drainage, leading to road blockages during heavy rains. The construction, which required a temporary traffic diversion from February 15 to March 15, is now in its final stage. The new bridge is expected to be operational by the end of March, resolving long-standing congestion issues.

New Township Development On Delhi Road

A new integrated TOD Township is set to be developed along Delhi Road in Meerut, covering approximately 300 hectares across two phases. Divided into 31 sectors, the township will feature residential, industrial, and commercial zones within the same premises. So far, 100 hectares of land have been acquired and further purchases are in progress.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is expected to perform the Bhoomi Pujan for the project in April, marking the beginning of construction and allotment processes. MDA has received Rs 400 crore from the government, with an additional Rs 350 crore from its infrastructure funds. Future installments of Rs 450 crore are also planned to ensure smooth development.
