UP Teacher Suspended: A teacher at a government school in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district was suspended after it was found that he allegedly spent a majority of his duty hours using his smartphone, news agency IANS reported on Thursday. The purported revelation came during a surprise visit to the school by Sambhal District Magistrate Rajendra Pansiya. The official reportedly found scores of mistakes in students' copies starting from the first page to the last.

Pansiya checked six pages of six students' copies, and spotted 95 mistakes, with nine being on the first page itself. He expressed displeasure over the amount of mistakes and checked assistant teacher Priyam Goyal's phone. Upon going through the Digital Wellness feature on the teacher's smartphone, Pansiya found that Goyal spent nearly two hours playing Candy Crush, 26 minutes talking, and almost 30 minutes on various social media apps.

"Teachers should focus on checking the classwork and homework of students, and ensure that they get quality education. Also, using mobile phones is not a problem, but using them for personal reasons during school hours is not right," the DM told reporters.

Given that the assistant teacher was spending the majority of the five-and-a-half hours of his duty time using his smartphone, the district magistrate apprised the state education department of the matter. The department took cognisance of the matter and placed Goyal on suspension.
