As many as 12 devotees, going for a holy bath in the Ganges, were killed after a truck lost its control and hit a tempo in UP’s Shahjahanpur, Jagran.com reported. The collision occurred on Farrukhabad road under the Allahganj police station limits. The incident reportedly took place due to low visibility amid fog.
SP Ashok Meena said the tempo driver, Suresh, was taking villagers for a holy bath in Damgadha Village of Madnapur area. The deceased include three women and a youth.
The truck driver absconded from the incident site soon after the accident. However, officials were yet to ascertain the real reason for the accident. There is neither a black spot nor a road broken at the incident site. It has been anticipated that the truck might be at high speed and lost control.
“The collision took place between a container and a tempo, where 10-12 people have been killed. The deceased include eight men, three women and one child. As per elementary information, they were going to Damgadha Village of Madnapur area on a tempo they booked from their village. The bodies have been sent for the postmortem. The container has been impounded but the driver has escaped. A team has been formed to arrest him. The case will be registered under stringent sections,” SP Ashok Meena said in a video shared by Shahjahan Police.
