The Uttar Pradesh government is taking steps to boost oilseed cultivation during the Rabi season by distributing 5.5 lakh oilseed minikits to farmers free of charge. In addition, Kisan Pathshalas (farmer schools) will be organised to educate farmers on new technologies and methods to increase crop production.

According to the Agriculture Department, Rabi season oilseed crops have higher acreage and production compared to Kharif crops, and face lower risks from pests and diseases, offering greater productivity potential.

To encourage cultivation, the department is implementing various schemes and subsidy-based programmes.

This season, the government plans to organise 7,653 block demonstrations and an equal number of Kisan Pathshalas to promote new oilseed varieties. The subsidy for these demonstrations will be directly transferred to selected farmers’ accounts through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).
