More than 32 candidates have submitted applications for the position of chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC). All applications were received by the Higher Education Department by the 6 PM deadline on December 10. Officials noted that the number of applicants usually rises on the final day, so the total may increase further.

The chairperson will serve a tenure of three years and must be under 65 years of age. The selected candidate will receive a monthly salary of Rs 1.75 lakh along with all applicable state government allowances.

This recruitment follows the resignation of the commission’s first chairperson, Prof. Kirti Pandey. Earlier, applications for the first round were invited between September 26 and October 21, with 67 candidates applying. 

After screening, 37 candidates were found eligible, but interviews could not be conducted. The eligibility act was subsequently amended, and a new advertisement was issued on November 19, under which the current applications are being processed.

The UP Education Service Selection Commission is responsible for conducting examinations and interviews for teacher recruitment across the state’s basic, secondary, higher, and technical educational institutions, including aided minority colleges. It also oversees the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). The appointment of a new chairperson is expected to expedite pending teacher recruitment processes.
