Consumers in Uttar Pradesh can now increase the capacity of their electricity connection from the comfort of their homes. To do so, they will need to visit the link for load change available on the official website www.uppcl.org and submit an application.
This order was issued by the Director (Commercial) of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation, Nidhi Kumar Narang, to all electricity distribution companies, instructing them to carry out the load increase process completely online.
Ashish Goyal, the Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation, stated that by making the load increase process online, consumers will be able to increase their load at their convenience, without having to visit any office. The load increase process will be completed within the specified time frame.
How was the load increase process done earlier?
Previously, consumers had to visit the electricity department's office to apply for a load increase. Afterward, the junior engineers and sub-division level officers would feed the application into the computer system and the load increase would be processed, which often took a lot of time.
The online load increase process will apply to all types of connections, excluding public lighting systems. In November 2024, the standard operating procedure (SOP) for online load increase was issued, stating that the process would begin only after the full payment of any outstanding bills.
Consumers will have to make the necessary processing fee and additional security deposit payment online. After the payment of the fee and security deposit, the load increase application will be received by the relevant distribution section in the billing system. The distribution section will verify the information and attached documents in the application.
If the application is complete and it is found that no estimation is required, the load increase will be done immediately. If the distribution section determines that network upgrading or strengthening is needed during the load increase process, a timeline for completing the work will be set.
For instance, the timeline for increasing the load from 50 kW to 56 kVA (230-400 volts) will be 45 days. For loads greater than 56 kVA but up to 3000 kVA, the timeline will be 60 days. For loads exceeding 3000 kVA but less than 20,000 kVA, the timeline will be 120 days, and for loads greater than 20,000 kVA on 132 kV lines, the timeline will be 300 days.
