Uttar Pradesh: In a major push towards road infrastructure in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday announced the construction of the Farrukhabad Link Expressway, a 90.83-kilometre-long corridor aimed at boosting regional trade and improving connectivity. The expressway will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 7,488.74 crore.
The proposed expressway will start from Etawah and extend to Hardoi via Farrukhabad, serving as a vital link between the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and the Ganga Expressway. The project is expected to significantly boost connectivity and trade in Uttar Pradesh.
Key Details Of Farrukhabad Link Expressway
- Route: The 90.83-kilometre-long, six-lane (expandable to eight) field-controlled Farrukhabad expressway will begin at Kudrail village in Takha, Etawah and end at Sawaijpur in Hardoi, passing through Farrukhabad.
- Crucial Link: The proposed expressway is expected to link the Agra-Lucknow Expressway with the Ganga Expressway.
- Cost: The expressway is estimated to cost Rs 7,488.74 crore, including Rs 6,258.90 crore for construction and Rs 1,100 crore for land acquisition.
- Connectivity: The six-lane expressway will ease travel for commuters travelling from Meerut and Prayagraj to Agra, Rajasthan. It will also improve access to Baba Neem Karoli Dham and the Buddhist pilgrimage site Sankisa.
- Land Acquisition: About 125 hectares of land for the proposed six-lane expressway will be acquired from over 1,000 farmers. Spanning over three gram panchayats in Jalalabad tehsil, the UP government has allocated Rs 1,100 crore for acquisition.
- Construction: The Farrukhabad Link Expressway will be constructed in two phases. The first phase will cover a 50-km stretch from Kudrail to Nadaura (near Neem Karoli Dham), while the second phase will cover 40.83 km from Nadaura to Sawaijpur (Ganga Expressway).
- Design: The Farrukhabad Link Expressway will be designed to meet a 100 million standard axle (MSA) capacity to support heavy traffic loads.
- Infrastructure: The proposed expressway will include four long bridges, 25 short bridges, two railway overbridges, 65 underpasses, one flyover and an additional 3.75-meter-wide service lane for local access.
- Interchange: Authorities have planned major interchanges at Kudrail (Agra-Lucknow and Bundelkhand Expressway Junction) in Etawah, Sarai Mandu (Aliganj-Kanpur GT Road) in Mainpuri, Kanhepur (Baddupur-Mohabbatpur Bewar Road), Daspur (Neem Karauli Road), Babarpur (Farrukhabad-Aliganj Road) and Ghazipur (Sultanpur-Kuari Road) in Farrukhabad, along with Timirpur (Ganga Expressway) in Hardoi.

- Districts To Benefit: The upcoming six-lane expressway is expected to benefit commuters from Etawah, Kannauj, Mainpuri, Farrukhabad, and Shahjahanpur. It will also boost trade in Farrukhabad and related districts.
