The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a long-pending maintenance proposal of nearly Rs 30 crore for the deteriorating Child PGI building in Noida’s Sector-30. The building, constructed at a cost of around Rs 1,200 crore, has been facing severe leakage and structural issues for years. The proposal had been awaiting approval for nearly three months.
According to officials, the Rajkiya Nirman Nigam (RNN), which constructed the facility, will begin repair work as soon as the PGI director receives the government’s formal letter this week. The Child PGI was built between 2008 and 2015, but within nine years of completion, the structure began showing alarming signs of neglect.

Persistent water leakage has been reported from the ceilings and pillars across multiple areas, including both basements, the ICU, and the first floor. Officials attributed the problem to faulty pipe fittings left during construction, resulting in continuous seepage and repeated incidents of false ceiling collapses.
A few months ago, the false ceiling even collapsed in the director’s office. Ceilings in patient attendant rooms are also unstable, with water expected to drip through at any time. The paediatric surgery operation theatre had to be shut down due to the worsening condition.
The hospital administration sought government funding after receiving a structural audit report from IIT Roorkee, which highlighted urgent repair requirements. The facility reportedly incurs an annual maintenance cost of Rs 40 crore.
