Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s rural tourism policy is driving significant economic growth in villages across the Ayodhya division. By integrating religious tourism with rural life, traditions, and folk culture, the state government has created new income opportunities for local families.

In the first phase, 93 villages across Uttar Pradesh have been selected for homestay development, including 19 in the Ayodhya division. In Ayodhya district, 50 homestays are being developed in Amauni, Sherwaghat, Abanpur Saroha, Gauraghat, and Rampurwa, with many already operational. Currently, the district has 292 hotels and 1,186 registered homestays offering affordable accommodation to tourists.

Upgraded infrastructure, cultural experience centres, rural housing, and local food facilities have helped create employment for youth, women, and artisans. Homestays that earlier earned between Rs 40,000 and Rs 50,000 per month are now generating up to Rs 2 lakh. According to officials, more than 69 lakh bookings have been made through the Divya Ayodhya app till February 2025, with average room rents ranging from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500 per day.

Following the implementation of the Homestay Policy 2025, rural homestay registrations have increased rapidly, and operators have reported a 40 per cent rise in monthly income. Residents are earning Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh even through small homestays with just two or three rooms.

Guesthouse operator Anshuman Tiwari said the construction of the Ram Mandir has significantly boosted local livelihoods. The number of artisans in Ayodhya has increased by over 25 per cent, with rural tourism giving renewed recognition to traditional crafts and folk art.

Women involved in rural cultural experience groups are earning Rs 5,000 to Rs 12,000 per month through roles in hospitality, local cuisine, household products, and cleanliness.
