Uttar Pradesh: In a dramatic turn of events, a man in Uttar Pradesh has been found to have fabricated a story of being attacked, in an attempt to claim government disability benefits. The case, which initially appeared to be a shocking instance of attempted murder, has now revealed a disturbing act of self-harm.
Suraj Bhaskar, a 28-year-old from Khalilpur village in Jaunpur district, initially told authorities that he had been attacked by unknown assailants. His family filed a complaint stating that Suraj had been brutally assaulted by attackers armed with sticks, who had allegedly severed his foot before fleeing the scene.
Taking the claim seriously, the police registered a case of attempted murder on January 18 and began a thorough investigation. Over the next several days, officers interviewed witnesses, examined the crime scene, and reviewed medical records in an effort to uncover the truth.
However, as the investigation progressed, inconsistencies began to surface. Through detailed questioning and analysis of medical evidence, the police soon discovered that the attack had never happened. Instead, Suraj had deliberately injured himself.
It was revealed that Suraj had carefully planned to make himself appear disabled in order to qualify for government benefits designed for people with disabilities. According to police, he used a grinder to sever his own leg, knowing it would put his life in serious danger, and then fabricated a story about an assault to cover his tracks.
"The evidence clearly shows there was no assault by outsiders. The injury was self-inflicted as part of a premeditated attempt to falsely claim disability benefit," said a police officer involved in the case.
With the truth uncovered, the police have now taken further legal action against Suraj for misleading authorities and attempting to secure benefits under false pretences.
