Ahead of the monsoon season, municipal bodies have undertaken extensive preparations to clean drains, improve drainage and drinking water systems, and prevent disease outbreaks. In a virtual review meeting held on Wednesday, Urban Development and Energy Minister AK Sharma directed municipal authorities to take these tasks seriously and ensure thorough implementation.
To prevent waterlogging during the rainy season, all pumping stations must be inspected and maintained to operate at full capacity. Municipal officials were instructed to personally oversee cleanliness efforts in their respective areas. The minister emphasised strengthening door-to-door garbage collection and ensuring daily transportation of waste to Material Recovery Facilities (MRF), preventing any accumulation of garbage.
In honor of the 300th birth anniversary of Rani Ahilyabai Holkar, women empowerment conferences will be held across all municipal bodies on May 29-30. These events will focus on informing women about employment, self-employment, and housing schemes, prioritising their benefits. Following this, a special cleanliness campaign in memory of Rani Ahilyabai will run from May 31 to June 15, targeting temples, religious sites, river ghats, and drains for thorough cleaning.
Additionally, ponds and reservoirs will be cleaned and beautified, and arrangements will be made to combat heatwave effects. Given the risk of malaria and dengue caused by waterlogging, advance preparations have been mandated. Special attention will also be paid to ensuring proper fodder and water supply in city cow shelters.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Amrit Abhijat, Secretary Ajay Kumar Shukla, Director Anuj Kumar Jha, and officials from Municipal Corporations, Municipalities, and Nagar Panchayats.
