Efforts to provide clean drinking water under the Jal Jeevan Mission have turned into a major inconvenience for villagers due to careless execution in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi. Implementing agencies, while laying underground pipelines, are flouting regulations, disrupting transport facilities, and leaving roads in hazardous conditions.
From creating dangerous potholes to dismantling CC and interlocking lanes in villages, firms responsible for the work seem indifferent to the daily struggles of residents. A glaring example is Kisni village, where the main road connecting the square to residential areas has been broken to install pipelines. When locals protested, the contractors brushed aside concerns, stating that “some inconvenience is inevitable in the pursuit of progress.”

Although regulations mandate restoring damaged roads after pipeline installation, firms routinely neglect this obligation once their work is complete. The deteriorating roads in multiple villages stand as undeniable proof of this negligence.
The broken roads have become a daily hazard, with multiple people sustaining injuries after tripping over the unfinished work. Despite being aware of the situation, responsible authorities remain unresponsive.
"The firms working under the Jal Jeevan Mission have not been authorised to damage infrastructure. They have been instructed to repair any roads they break during pipeline installation," Raj Kumar Yadav, Junior Engineer, Rural Water Corporation, said.
