PWD Departments are rushing to utilise the pending budget ahead of the new fiscal year in Unnao. In the past week alone, the Treasury Office has disbursed Rs 1360 crore across 68 departments, including USDA, Supply, Municipality, PMGSY, and Jal Nigam.

The urgency is so high that the Treasury remains open even on Sunday, and despite the Eid holiday on Monday, it will operate until midnight to process additional payments. Officials estimate that by the end of March 31, the total payout could reach Rs 2250 crore.

Every year, government budgets must be utilised within the financial year, which runs from April 1 to March 31. This has led to a last-minute surge in spending. Public Works Department (PWD) projects, which had been awaiting funds all year, received approvals in the final days. Departmental sources indicate that PWD alone processed payments exceeding Rs 500 crore in the last week.

Treasury data shows that Rs 1360 crore has already been paid, while bills worth an additional Rs 1000 crore are still pending. The treasury is working at full capacity to clear these transactions before the deadline. If tender processes and bonds are not completed on time, there is a risk of funds being returned unused.
