For the three-tier panchayat elections, the Election Commission, now considering the district as a unit, has identified 1,237,000 potential duplicate voters. The Commission has provided a list of these to the District Election Office, and the process of handing it over to Booth Level Officers (BLOs) has begun.

Door-To-Door Verification Campaign

Until February 20 The verification work will intensify in a day or two. This campaign will run until 20 February. BLOs will go door-to-door and, along with verifying voters, will ask for four digits of their Aadhaar card. The names of those not found to be residing permanently and who are unable to provide their Aadhaar card will be removed. The last four digits of the respective voters' Aadhaar cards will also be fed into the system during the survey.

Shift From Block-Level To District-Level Screening

Previously, the Election Commission had prepared a list of 512,000 duplicate voters by considering the block as a unit. This meant that individuals with the same name, parent's name, and date of birth in the voter lists of two or more panchayats within the same block were considered potential duplicate voters. During the verification, the names of 151,000 of these voters were removed.

Now, the Election Commission has prepared a list of potential duplicate voters by considering the district as a unit. The names of voters with the same name, parent's name, and date of birth in two or more panchayats in any block within the district have been included in this list.

Final Voter List Publication Delayed To March 28

The survey of potential duplicate voters for the three-tier panchayat elections has begun and will continue until 20 February. For this reason, the final voter list will be published on 28 March, whereas according to the previously scheduled date, the final voter list was to be released on 6 February.

Official Statement on Verification Process

 Deputy District Election Officer Vineet Singh said, "Verification has already been conducted considering the block as a unit. Now, the Election Commission has prepared another list of potential duplicate voters, considering the district as a unit. It contains the names of 1,237,000 voters. The list has been given to the BLOs. They will go door-to-door for verification, and the names of those who are actually identified as duplicate voters will be removed."
