Frustrated over the unavailability of a seat in the train, two brothers from Kanpur sparked panic on the Delhi-bound Amrapali Express at Kanpur Central railway station by making a false bomb threat call, said officials.

"They said the train was full, and after an argument over seating, they made the false bomb call out of frustration," said the SHO GRP Om Narayan Singh.

A hoax call was made to the railway helpline around midnight on Thursday-Friday, claiming ‘12 men in black’ had boarded the Amrapali Express and planted a bomb in the general compartment. This triggered a prompt response from the police and intelligence units.

Multiple agencies, including the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), Bomb Disposal Squad, and Fire Brigade, rushed to the scene on Thursday night. The train was thoroughly searched for 40 minutes, with authorities conducting three separate checks.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) also joined the investigation to determine if there were any underlying motives behind the hoax.

Later, no explosives or suspicious objects were discovered, and the train was cleared for departure. The investigation led to the detention of two brothers, Deepak Chauhan and Ankit Chauhan, residents of Ghatampur in Kanpur. The accused were apprehended from Faithfulganj on Friday afternoon.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cantonment) Aakansha Pandey, the duo confessed to making the false call due to frustration over not finding seats in the overcrowded general coach.
