The online application process for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) Scheme examination 2026-27 is underway and will remain open until September 24. The registration window, which began on August 27, allows eligible students from across Uttar Pradesh to apply.
The examination is scheduled to be held on November 9 at designated district-level centres. The Government of India has allocated 15,143 seats for the state, with a target of receiving applications amounting to 15 times the number of seats available in each district.
To qualify, students must have passed Class 7 in 2024-25 with at least 55 per cent marks (50 per cent for SC/ST candidates) and must currently be enrolled in Class 8 in a government, government-aided, or council school for the 2025-26 session. Students from Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, Sainik Schools, government residential institutions, and private schools are not eligible.
The annual income of an applicant’s parents or guardians must not exceed Rs 3.5 lakh from all sources. Selected students will receive a scholarship of Rs 1,000 per month (Rs 12,000 annually) from Class 9 to Class 12, provided they continue their education without interruption.

No examination fee will be charged. The Director of Secondary Education, Dr Mahendra Dev, has instructed all District Inspectors of Schools (DIOS) and Basic Education Officers (BEOs) to ensure maximum participation of eligible students through extensive publicity drives.
