Shiksha Mitras, working in Uttar Pradesh's primary schools, voiced their demands for adjusted postings and inclusion in the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (health insurance scheme) on Monday, April 21.
A delegation of Shiksha Mitras met with Deepak Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of Basic Education, to discuss their concerns. Shivkumar Shukla, state president of the Primary Shiksha Mitra Association, explained that Shiksha Mitras were appointed as teachers in 2014-15 but reverted to Shiksha Mitra status following a Supreme Court order in July 2017.

In June 2018, they were asked to apply for reinstatement in their original schools, but approximately 24,000 did not return. The delegation requested that these Shiksha Mitras be transferred back to their original schools or schools closer to their current locations.
Married female Shiksha Mitras requested transfers to schools near their marital homes. Kumar assured prompt action on the matter. MLC Srichand Sharma, also present, pledged to raise the issue of increased honorarium for Shiksha Mitras with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
