The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a sponsorship scheme aimed at supporting children from disadvantaged backgrounds. This welfare initiative provides financial assistance of Rs 4,000 per month to eligible children under 18 years of age, ensuring their education and well-being.

UP Sponsorship Scheme

The sponsorship scheme is specifically designed for children facing adverse circumstances, such as the loss of parents or family financial instability. Managed by the Women and Child Welfare Department, the program seeks to aid orphans, children of separated parents and those impacted by health or social challenges.

UP Sponsorship Scheme Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the scheme, children must fall into one or more of the following categories:

  • Orphans or children with parents unable to care for them.

  • Children of divorced or separated mothers.

  • Children whose parents suffer from life-threatening illnesses or are imprisoned.

  • Victims of natural disasters, child trafficking or child marriage.

  • Homeless or displaced children, as well as those with disabilities or missing children.

  • Children living on the streets.

Additionally, the income of the child’s guardian should not exceed Rs 72,000 per annum in rural areas and Rs 96,000 per annum in urban areas. However, this income limit does not apply if both parents or the legal guardian are deceased.

UP Sponsorship Scheme Application Process

Applications for the sponsorship scheme must be submitted offline at the District Women and Child Welfare Department or the District Child Protection Unit. Required documents include:

  • Aadhaar cards of the child and guardian.

  • Income and age certificates.

  • Death certificate of parents or guardians (if applicable).

  • Proof of registration in an educational institution.
