The Urban Development Department is formulating a new advertising policy aimed at significantly increasing the revenue generated by municipal corporations. With the ambitious goal of a 100-fold revenue increase over the next five years, the policy outlines strategies such as expanding digital and static advertising, extending corporation limits, and constructing new roads.

The department projects a steady 5 per cent annual growth in advertising revenue under the proposed 2025 policy, complemented by an additional 10 per cent increase from other development projects.

The new policy will encourage mobile advertising vans, advertisements on buses and autos, and digital hoardings on private buildings. The expansion of corporation limits is expected to open up new advertising opportunities in commercial areas. The policy will be designed with environmental considerations and the city's aesthetics in mind.

According to the department, the advertising revenue for municipal corporations was Rs 78.9 crore in the fiscal year 2024-25. This is projected to increase to Rs 90.74 crore in 2025-26, Rs 104.35 crore in 2026-27, and reach Rs 158.7 crore by 2029-30.
