A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj has sent a 50-year-old man to 26 years of rigorous imprisonment for abducting and raping a three-year-old girl in Kannauj’s village around two years ago. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,500 on the convict identified as Rajesh Jatav, government advocate Naveen Kumar Dubey told news agency PTI.
According to Dubey, the complaint filed against Rajesh alias Mahatma alleged that he had abducted the three-year-old girl on December 2, 2021. He held her hostage in a nearby house and raped her. However, when the victim’s health deteriorated, he fled the spot.
Following this, the family members of the victim reached the spot, rescued her, and took her to the hospital, Dubey said. He further said that Special Judge (POCSO) Alka Yadav found Rajesh guilty on Friday and sentenced him to 26 years of rigorous imprisonment.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,500 on Rajesh and ordered that in case of non-payment, he would have to serve an additional punishment of two years, the government advocate said.
This is not the first time such incidents came to light. Earlier in October, as many as two people were arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl in Gorakhpur. The accused involved in the incident were identified as Sunil Gaur (35) and Durgesh Kumar Yadav alias Melhu (21), both residents of the Pipiganj police station area, the police said.
In another incident which took place earlier this month, a man was arrested on for allegedly sexually assaulting an 80-year-old differently-abled woman in Kerala’s Kottiyam. The frightening incident took place on October 20 when the victim was found injured in an isolated area of the city, the police said. Following this, the accused was taken into custody.
