Uttar Pradesh News: After nearly a seven-month wait, the Northern Bypass connecting Raipura Jat on the National Highway-19 to Midawali Hathras Road is nearing completion and is slated to open in the second week of December. The final step, shifting the high-tension line running over the bypass, has begun and is expected to finish within the next two weeks.
Key Features of 14-Km Northern Bypass
- Built at a cost of Rs 400 crore, the 14-km-long Northern Bypass will connect Raipura Jat on National Highway-19 with the Midawali Hathras Road, Jagran.com reported.

- Once completed, the bypass will transform local commuting by significantly reducing vehicle pressure on the Sikandra intersection and cutting the travel time to Khandauli by 20 minutes.
Northern Bypass: Construction Timeline
- A proposal for the construction of the Northern Bypass was first drafted a decade ago. The initial proposal was shelved just one month after the preliminary survey was completed, the report added.
- Due to increasing traffic congestion at the Sikandra intersection, the bypass survey was restarted in 2019.
- The tender for the project was issued in 2021, and the construction started in 2022.
- The 14-km-long Northern Bypass was slated for completion in March 2025. However, the deadline was extended twice due to the slow pace of construction work.
- Although construction was finished by May 2025, the bypass remained non-operational due to the low height of two critical high-tension power lines.
- One high-tension line was moved three and a half months ago, and work is now progressing on the second critical line that feeds the Mathura Refinery.
The Northern Bypass is expected to be fully operational by the second week of December, Jagran.com quoted an official as saying.
