UP SIR: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released the draft electoral rolls of Uttar Pradesh today, January 6, under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The publication of draft electoral rolls comes after the ECI extended the deadline three times from its original December 9 schedule.
Under the revised schedule, the window for submitting claims and objections begins today after the publication of draft electoral rolls, and will remain open until February 6. Speaking to news agency PTI, Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa stated that the disposal of these claims, including the notice stage and decisions on enumeration forms, will continue from January 6 to February 27, after which the final electoral roll will be published on March 6.
2.89 Crore Names To Be Deleted From UP Voter List
Nearly 28.9 million (2.89 crore) names have been removed from Uttar Pradesh’s electoral rolls, primarily due to factors such as death, relocation, or duplicate registrations. This figure accounts for 18.70 per cent of the 154.4 million voters recorded in the October 2025 list.
This follows a 52-day Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise under the 'Shuddh Nirvachak Namavali - Majboot Loktantra' (Clean Electoral Roll - Strong Democracy), aimed at updating the existing voter list and removing fictitious names.
