In a recent development on Wednesday, Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, along with his wife Tazeen Fatima and son Abdullah Azam, has been convicted in a 2019 fake birth certificates case. Following the court verdict, the trio was immediately taken into judicial custody and is set to be transferred directly from the court to jail. The prosecution, represented by former District Government Counsel Arun Parkash Saxena, confirmed the imposition of a seven-year jail term by MP-MLA court magistrate Shobit Bansal, marking the maximum sentence.
During the proceedings, Azam Khan, his son Abdullah and his wife Tazeen Fatma appeared in the court. The police and the administration remained vigilant, deploying huge force across the court premises owing to the threats to law and order situation.
It's noteworthy that the court rejected the application filed by Azam Khan's advocate to transfer the case to the Supreme Court. The case, initiated by BJP MLA Akash Saxena on January 3, 2019, alleges that Azam Khan produced two birth certificates for his son with different dates of birth, one from Rampur Municipality and the other from Lucknow.
Azam Khan, his son Abdullah, and his wife Dr. Tajin Fatma are implicated in the case, currently under consideration in the MP-MLA Special Court (Magistrate Trial). Testimonies from both sides have concluded, and the court scheduled the verdict for October 18. Azam Khan sought recourse in the Supreme Court to avert the judgment, filing a case transfer application.
Sandeep Saxena, the advocate for BJP MLA, confirmed the rejection of the petition in the Supreme Court, anticipating a decision on Wednesday. The charges against Azam Khan and his family include serious offences such as fraud and the creation of forged documents.
