YEIDA Plot Scheme: The allotments of 302 applicants in the Yamuna Authority's residential plot scheme are at risk of being cancelled. These allottees have just ten days left to deposit 90 percent of the plot's total price. If the payment is not made by the deadline, the plot allotments will be revoked.
Yamuna Authority had received over one lakh applications for 451 residential plots in the scheme, with plots allotted through a lottery in December. After the lottery, successful applicants were issued allotment letters and given 60 days to pay 90 percent of the plot amount. This deadline is set to expire on March 1.
Online applications were invited for the scheme, with applicants required to pay a 10 percent registration fee of the total plot cost. For successful lottery applicants, the registration fee will be adjusted against the total plot cost, while the registration fee for unsuccessful applicants has been refunded.
Plots have been allotted in Sector 24A under the scheme. Once the internal development work in the sector is completed, the authority will register the plots in the names of the allottees and hand over physical possession.
The authority has introduced a policy requiring a single lump sum payment for the housing scheme, eliminating the option to pay the plot price in installments. Successful applicants must pay a 10 percent registration fee and the remaining 90 percent in a lump sum.
As the authority's residential property rates continue to rise, the cost of plots has also been steadily increasing. Many applicants apply for the scheme by taking a loan for the registration fee, but paying the remaining 90 percent in a lump sum becomes a challenge if they are unable to secure additional funding. Without a loan or the ability to arrange the necessary funds, the risk of allotment cancellation increases.
On Wednesday, the Yamuna Authority allotted seven percent population plots to 77 farmers from Jaganpur Afzalpur village. The allotment was conducted through a lottery, where plot numbers were drawn at the authority office. These farmers' land was acquired for the construction of an interchange connecting the Yamuna Expressway and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
The National Highways Authority of India is building the interchange, located approximately ten kilometres from the Yamuna Expressway's zero point. To facilitate this project, around 54 hectares of farmland have been acquired from the farmers. A total of 137 affected farmers will receive seven percent population plots as compensation.
