Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday participated in the 27th Foundation Day celebrations of the Dehradun Municipal Corporation, during which he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth over Rs 46 crore across the city.
Addressing the ceremony, the Chief Minister said that over the past 27 years, the Dehradun Municipal Corporation has played a pivotal role in shaping the city into a clean, safe and well-organised urban centre, while significantly improving civic amenities and modern urban management. He said the Foundation Day was not only an occasion to celebrate achievements but also an opportunity to plan for future challenges and developmental goals.
CM Dhami said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urban development across the country has gained new momentum. He highlighted major central schemes such as the Swachh Bharat Mission, AMRUT, Smart City Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, PM Swanidhi Yojana, Open Defecation Free Campaign and legacy waste management initiatives, which have improved urban infrastructure and citizen services.
The Chief Minister informed that the state government is implementing projects worth over Rs 1,400 crore to develop Dehradun into a modern city. He said mechanised transfer stations have been constructed for scientific waste management, and an Integrated Command and Control Centre has been established for real-time monitoring of garbage collection vehicles. Additionally, 35 parks have been developed across the city to enhance green cover.
He further announced that the city’s largest yoga-themed park is being developed in Kedarpuram, while over 50,000 square metres of green space is being created through memorial parks dedicated to martyrs. A “Renew Rispana” campaign is also being launched to rejuvenate the city’s rivers.
To promote environmental protection, 30 electric buses are currently operating in Dehradun, and EV charging stations have been installed at 11 locations. Due to these efforts, Dehradun has secured 19th rank nationwide in the Clean Air Survey under the National Clean Air Programme and improved its position to 62nd rank in the Swachh Survekshan cleanliness rankings.
CM Dhami said the government is also working towards permanent solutions to traffic and parking issues. Underground parking facilities are being developed at several locations, and proposals are underway to construct elevated roads over the Rispana and Bindal rivers to ease congestion.
During the event, the Chief Minister also felicitated Municipal Corporation employees for their outstanding performance.
Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal said continuous efforts are being made to develop Dehradun as a modern and environmentally sustainable city and shared details of ongoing civic projects.
Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal, MLAs Khajan Das, Vinod Chamoli and Umesh Sharma Kau, Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal, councillors and senior officials were present at the programme.

- Beautification from Kuthal Gate to Rajpur Chowk - Rs 2.57 crore
- Footpath and greenery from Dhantaghar to RTO Chowk - Rs 1.65 crore
- Footpath and greenery from Dhantaghar to Yamuna Colony - Rs 1.93 crore
- Road and footpath development from Vivekanand Chowk to Kuthal Gate - Rs 2.34 crore

- Park development in Ward No. 60 (IT Park Road) - Rs 1.16 crore
- Release of Municipal Corporation Coffee Table Book, Diary and E-Office system
- Mechanised smart parking facility - Rs 3.29 crore
- Rajpur Road parking facility - Rs 1 crore
- Mechanised transfer station at Dhora - Rs 6.29 crore
