Following the collapse of a bridge near Shiv Mandir, all vehicular traffic on the Dehradun-Mussoorie road was brought to a halt. This incident has particularly impacted the Transport Corporation and private bus services, which were forced to suspend operations on Tuesday.

Impact On Bus Services And Passengers

The police and administration have restricted vehicle movement beyond Kuthalgate on the Doon-Mussoorie road. This has caused significant disruption, as the Transport Corporation's regular fleet of 30 buses—25 of which operate exclusively between Dehradun and Mussoorie—was unable to run. These 25 buses typically make three round trips per day, serving between 3,500 and 4,000 passengers daily. Passengers who had booked their tickets online received refunds.

In addition to the state-run buses, approximately 20 buses from the private company Vishwanath Sewa were also stopped. Buses that normally travel to destinations like Chamba and beyond via Mussoorie were also affected. However, some buses heading towards Barkot (Uttarkashi) and Nainbagh (Tehri) were redirected to an alternative route via Vikasnagar and Yamuna Bridge.

Alternative Route And Increased Travel Time

With the Dehradun-Lambidhar-Kimadi road also being closed, the only viable option for travel to Mussoorie is the alternative route through Vikasnagar, Yamuna Bridge, and Kempty Fall. Although this route is paved, it significantly increases the travel distance. The typical distance from Dehradun to Mussoorie is about 35 km, but the alternative route is approximately 80 km, more than doubling the journey length and causing considerable hardship for passengers.
