Following the model used after the 2013 Kedarnath tragedy, victims of the recent disaster in Dharali, Uttarkashi district, will be identified through DNA sample testing and profile matching. The disaster, which originated from the Kheer Ganga route, left the town of Dharali buried in debris. So far, two bodies have been recovered, while 67 people remain missing.
Although search operations are ongoing, the government has decided to focus on identifying victims by testing the DNA of body parts recovered from the debris. To support this effort, the Chief Minister has sanctioned Rs 93 lakh for the Forensic Science Laboratory in Dehradun to purchase the necessary equipment, chemicals, and other supplies.
