A massive fire broke out on Wednesday night in Mahargaon, in the Niti-Malari Valley, located on the India-China border, due to unknown causes, destroying several residential homes. Flames were visible four kilometres away from the village in Chamoli district.
According to Disaster Management Officer Nandkishore Joshi, the ITBP and police, along with some villagers living in Malari, reached the spot after receiving information about the fire.

Officials reported that the residents had migrated to lower areas for winter migration, and no one was living in the village, averting a major danger.
Joshimath Deputy District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Vashishtha said that due to the seriousness of the incident, fire services, police, and an ITBP team stationed near Mahargaon were immediately dispatched from Joshimath to the scene. Relief and rescue teams are currently trying to control the fire.
